1)  Decide what constitutes “UP”. It could be a simple front end web test, or a db query. The important point is that it is a test that is close to what the end user experiences. Create a script that tests your application front end, or db layer and creates output something like the below, including success and the time taken to complete the test.:

ma_name:app_heartbeat
ma_group_name: Service Availability
ma_short_name: UP
ma_mon_order: 10
ma_group_column: Instance
ma_keys: Instance
ma_data: Instance @@@ Connect @@@ Connect Time Seconds @@@ Info
Service1@@@OK@@@0.0125@@@
Service2@@@Fail@@@n/a@@@(Err:[006] System call 'connect' failed, rc=111:Connection refused)
Service3@@@OK@@@0.045@@

2) Register with the Monitiq agent. (Linux, AIX or Windows)
3) You will get the table of the last metrics straight away,  Centiq do some back end configuration to get the graphs

Easy as 1-2-3, especially if you have a Managed service contract with Centiq, we are more than happy to help with the scripting!
