AIX Installation Instructions

Monitiq Agent versions 1.5.x

The AIX installation is performed using the Red Hat Package Manager (RPM). When installing via HTTP:

# cd /tmp; wget http://repo.monitiq.com/agents/AIX/monitiq-agent-W.X.Y-Z.aix6.1.ppc.rpm

When installing from a local directory (e.g. /tmp):

# rpm -Uvh /tmp/monitiq-agent-W.X.Y-Z.aix6.1.ppc.rpm

Where W.X.Y = Version (e.g. 1.5.0) and Z = Release (e.g. 612)

The RPM will make the necessary checks, and if satisfied, install the required files to the defined locations.

Where the Monitiq host agent software is to be installed on multiple servers, and a NIM server is available, the RPM package can be downloaded and defined as a NIM resource. The RPM package can then be installed on multiple servers simultaneously using a Machine Group.

Where the Monitiq host agent software is to be installed on multiple servers, and a NIM server is not available, the RPM package can be downloaded to a local FTP server, and installed as follows:

# rpm -Uvh ftp://{server}/{path}/monitiq-agent-W.X.Y-Z.aix6.1.ppc.rpm

or

# rpm -Uvh ftp://{user}:{password}@{server}/{path}/monitiq-agent-W.X.Y-Z.aix6.1.ppc.rpm

Agent configuration

Note: This step is not necessary when updating the agent to a later version/release.

To configure the Monitiq host agent run the following command:

# /opt/monitiq-agent/monitiq.rc config

This command prompts for the following configuration information:

  1. Monitiq Target Server – Default = agent000.monitiq.com
  2. Customer Scope ID – Customer specific 40 Character ID
  3. Proxy Server IP Address – Default = None
  4. Proxy Server Port Number – Default = None
  5. Whether HTTPS is to be used – Default = Yes

This will create a Jobs.ini and Jobs.xml file within

/opt/monitiq-agent/

– The Jobs.ini file can be copied to other servers for scripted installs.

When configuration is complete the Monitiq host agent software can be started.
